I just got this influx of genius today that I want to share with you. From personal experience, working energetically with my alchemical partner (Soror Mystica), I have verified that the Seven Internal Planets or Metals (i.e. the Chakras of the Tantric Yogis) in fact actually are formed as (lotus) flowers, or perhaps as funnels or horns. As can bee seen on the following illustration each energy wheel (Chakra) emerges from the spine (in which it is rooted), as with a stem, out to the front of the body to open up its petals on the surface of the energetic or etheric body.

LeadbeaterThis reminded me of something that Pat Zalewski once stated in his Golden Dawn Ritual Commentaries book, that the Adepts of the Whare Ra (of Havelock North, New Zeeland) believed that the tail of the Nemyss actually protected the Chakras from possession (or was it from a premature raising of the Kundalini?). According to this protocol, developed in one of the finest magical schools that occult history ever have encountered, the instructions as for the tail of the Nemyss was to make it long enough sufficient for it to protect the entire spine from the head down to
the base of the spine. Some Adepts supposedly also inserted a Talisman into the tail of the Nemyss to enhance its protective powers against the evil mischief making of Oomo-Shatan-Apophis.However, these good Adepts missed the important point that the Chakras in fact are predominately directed and thus most vulnerable to the front of the body. Therefore the Chakras emit as well as receive energy for the most part through their opened up flowers or funnels. Thus the back is actually not that particularly vulnerable; alas they left their Chakras unprotected through this grave error!
But let us not be alarmed my good and dear readers; I have finally solved this problem today.

Unfortunately that is PZBS. Nemysses of the original GD did not have tails at all. The modern fashion for Nemysses with tails derived from the 1980s when one temple member in America was a Hollywood costume designer - and she happened to have a job-lot of betailed nemysses left over from a film she had been working on.

SvaraRaderaAlthough I find your story amusing and entertaining, I must say, in the name of historical accuricy, that the use of tails with Nemysses in the Golden Dawn Tradition actually didn't originate in America and the 1980's. They were part of the old orders.
However, as you I doubt that they were used to protect any "Chakras" in the way that PZ has described.

The magical tie, introduced at the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century, was replaced in 2314 by the com badge, making both standard Star Fleet communicators and the Golden Dawn magical tie obsolete.

SvaraRaderaNow let me quote what he actually writes in his "Z-5" book, in the context of God-Form assumption and the energy created from that created astral shell: "Normally, this influx of energy would boost up the etheric centers to the point of the Hierophant's own chakras on his/her back, would be linked directly to those of the god-form, but the nemyss prevents this. The long tail of the nemyss, which goes just below the base of the spine and is wide enough to cover the chakra vortex, aslo acts as a type of protection against possession during the ceremony and prevents the kundalini from rising up this path.
"Some Adepti, of both the Golden Dawn and the Stella Matutina, had a fear of possession so strong that they had talismans sown into the linings of their nemysses, at the bases of the tails, to prevent this."
Aside from Mr. Zalewski claiming this traditon going back to the original Golden Dawn (which deserves an entire essay on its own), he clearly writes that both the fear of possession and of kundalini rising prompted this design of the Nemyss and its tail.
It is clear, from that quote, that it is designed to protect each Chakra from an outside force (i.e. possession). I also interpret it that it is the infux of power from the God-Form (and its supposed chakras) that awakens the Kundalini. Thus there is a two way process here, that I can read from Mr. Zalewski's words, of the initial influx of foreign energy which then triggers the kundalini to rise.
I seriously urge Mr. Zalewski to reconsider this and immediately aquire for himself, and his correspondence students, the Magical Tie, or suffer the consequences of possession and the kundalini creating energetic havoc.
But this is not all my dear friends. Mr. Zalewski furthermore states: "When the god-forms link to the Hierophant, it is done at the front of the body and not the back..."
Now, this clearly affirms what I told you about the workings of the Chakras, didn't it. What does he suggest as a remedy? Pat continues the previous sentence: "...through the lamen, which also acts against possession..."
The Lamen?! That piece of wood (or metal, or whatever material you made the Lamen of) only protects the Heart Chakra! What about the rest?
Can you all now agree with me, after presenting you this overwhelming evidence, that the Magical Tie truly is the superior itemn used to protect you (or rather your Chakras) from possession?
